Project: 'Dear Brum' Video Content Creation

In a project commissioned to capture the spirit of Birmingham, the mission was to create a visual representation of the city's soul. The essence and emotion that Birmingham's residents feel towards their city were to be encapsulated through a collaboration with Casey Bailey, the city's Poet Laureate.

Objectives:

  • To reinterpret Casey Bailey's original piece 'Dear Brum' into a compelling visual format.

  • To engage the Birmingham community and beyond through a shareable and appealing video tribute.

  • To achieve a significant impact upon release, resonating with viewers and capturing the essence of the city.

Creative Approach:

  1. Reworking Literary Art: Casey Bailey's 'Dear Brum' was reworked to translate poetic affection into a visual medium.

  2. Motion Design: Employing double exposure techniques, a 'visual love letter' to Birmingham was crafted by the motion team.

  3. High-Impact Launch: The video premiered at the Birmingham City Council House, utilizing top-tier AV equipment for a presentation to key community figures.

Outcome:

Upon release, the film became an instant sensation, rapidly spreading across social media platforms. It not only went viral among Birmingham residents but also caught the attention of a wider audience, earning commendation for its evocative portrayal of the city.

Recognition:

The film's innovation and emotional depth were recognised with a Royal Television Society Award for the best promotional content. The director's vision was pivotal, relentlessly refining the film until it surpassed the project's objectives and expectations, ultimately earning the accolade.

Conclusion:

The 'Dear Brum' project stands as a profound testament to the power of visual storytelling in celebrating the character and vibrancy of a city. It was an honour to be part of a project so deeply embedded in the cultural fabric of Birmingham, contributing to its legacy and vision for the future.
