Mondlicht Bücher
Giving special editions a world of their own.
Mondlicht Bücher is a German book retailer specialising in limited editions, exclusive book releases and subscription boxes for readers who want something a little more special from their favourite stories.
With a focus on romance and fantasy, their editions bring together the books themselves and the details that make them worth collecting.

A special edition has the opportunity to become something more than a book. It’s an object in its own right, something readers want to display on their shelves as much as they want to get lost in its pages.
The challenge is to translate the atmosphere of a story into a physical design that feels considered, distinctive and true to the world within it. Every detail contributes to that experience, from the artwork across the hardcover to the typography that brings a title to life.
-
The first project was “Spell Caster”, which set the foundation for an ongoing collaboration with Mondlicht Bücher. Its sequel, “Night Witch”, followed, allowing the work to continue across the series and build on the visual world established by the first design.
From there, we created hardcover designs for Stella Tack’s “Night of Crowns” books one and two, alongside typography for several other projects, including Kate Stewart’s “Ravenhood” series. Each brings its own creative considerations, but the focus remains the same: creating designs that give these editions their own identity while celebrating the stories they contain.
-
What makes this partnership particularly rewarding is the variety of work it brings. Moving between different authors, series and typographic projects means each brief offers a new opportunity to explore a story visually, while building a shared understanding of what makes a special edition feel special.
There’s also something important about returning to a series to design its remaining covers. Consistency helps each book feel part of a bigger picture, creating a cohesive collection that sits together on the shelf while allowing every instalment to retain its own identity. It’s about striking that balance between giving each story its own visual character and making sure the books feel like they belong together.
For a brand like Mondlicht Bücher, that attention to detail is part of the experience they offer their readers. The book is the starting point, but its design helps make it something to treasure. And being able to return to a series, build on the work already established and help bring the wider collection together is what makes an ongoing creative partnership so valuable.
Bring your brief, we’ll make it loud.
